What to Expect at a Class
“The purpose of meditation is to make the mind calm and peaceful. When the turbulence of distracting thoughts subsides and the mind becomes still, a deep happiness and contentment arises naturally from within.”
The New Meditation Handbook by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
Our classes and courses generally have three elements:
Guided Meditation
Every class includes a chance to practise meditation. No prior experience, special equipment or special clothes are necessary – just come as you are. We meditate sitting on chairs & all the meditations are guided.
Talk
From Buddha’s teachings, these practical talks help us to solve our daily problems and find peace, happiness and, if we wish, a deeper purpose in our busy lives.
Discussion
A chance to discuss the talk and meditation with others, and to ask questions. Don’t worry – there’s no expectation to talk if you don’t want to!
The talks and guided meditations will provide you with the foundation for developing a powerful meditation practice. A regular meditation practice has many benefits:
- Helps reduce stress
- Overcomes anxiety and worry
- Brings inner calm and a feeling of well-being
- Gives clarity to solve our problems
- Helps us deal with challenging people and situations
Buddhism is a non-evangelical religion and so everyone is invited to use whichever aspects of the teachings they find helpful and to not worry about the rest! Our meditation classes are clear, accessible, and friendly.
